Obituary for Arthur E. LeBeau

Arthur E. LeBeau, 96, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on February 24, 2019. He was born November 19, 1922 in New Bedford, MA, a son of the late Ernest and Marie (Dudevoir) LeBeau; he graduated from Plainfield High School in 1938. Mr. LeBeau was a World War II Army Air Corp Veteran and subsequently became a lifelong resident of Canterbury in 1953. He retired from Electric Boat in 1988 following over 38 years of employment. On February 16, 1946 he married the love of his life Helen (Gadbois) LeBeau, who predeceased him on January 24, 2010. Mr. LeBeau was a former member and chairman of the Canterbury Board of Education, a life member of VFW Post 5446, a life member of K of C Council 270, a member and past president of the Canterbury Senior Citizens, as well as a communicant, former trustee, lector, and Eucharistic Minister at St. Augustine Church. He is survived by his brother Ernest LeBeau of Danielson, a son Richard LeBeau of Griswold; 8 daughters - Sharon LeBeau of Canterbury, Joyce (Lloyd) Anderson of GA, Christine (Kenneth) Jones of GA, Arlene (James) Hamelin of Meriden, Annette (Raymond) Betsill of GA, Marie (Dennis) Hoffman of Plainfield, Gail (David) Forrest of Westbrook, Theresa (Frank) Frandson of Northford, 23 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren with 2 additional great granddaughters expected this year, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Gerald LeBeau, his daughter-in-law Barbara LeBeau, his son-in-law Bernard Marnell, a brother and 3 sisters. Visiting hours are Wednesday (2-27-19) 4-7 PM at Dougherty Bros. Funeral Home, 595 Norwich Road, Plainfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday (2-28-19) in St. Augustine Church, Canterbury, followed by burial in All Hallows Cemetery in Moosup. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canterbury Historical Society, PO. Box 2, Canterbury, CT 06331 or to VFW Post 5446, Winsor Avenue, Plainfield, CT 06374.
