Obituary for Nicholas R. Couture

Nicholas R. Couture 95, beloved husband of the late Edith “Betty” (Bushey) Couture passed away on Dec. 29, 2018. Nicholas was born Jan. 23, 1923 in Moosup, son to the late Samuel J. Couture and Bernadette (Caron) Couture. “Nick” spent more than 20 years of his life serving in the U. S. Navy and also time in the Marines as a Medic on the battlefields. He toured in World War II, The Korean War, and also The Vietnam War until returning home in 1970. With his honorable discharge and his Medal of Merit he settled back in his hometown of Moosup, CT and married Edith “Betty” Bushey. He was happily employed as a Manager at American Standard in town running an all Woman crew and proudly spoke of how great they all were. Concurrently, he was on-call as an EMT with the American Legion Ambulance in Moosup for more than 20 years. After many winters in Connecticut Nick and Betty retired to Florida spending their golden years tending to their property and making a life that was easy, comfortable, and peaceful. He enjoyed the best things in life yet remained modest with his fast fancy cars and tending to his meticulously cared for home, yard, and rose gardens over the years. Nick and Betty especially enjoyed spending time with their beloved family and friends traveling by car back to CT from FL often to stay in touch and be of service to older family near and far. After Betty’s death in 2010 Nick remained in Florida in their home until this past summer when he returned to family and friends in Plainfield. While in the care of Hospice and family he passed peacefully at home with his loved ones. He leaves a brother Louis Couture of Moosup; a sister Lucienne Potvin of FL; his 4 children by marriage and his many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren from his almost 40-year marriage. He was predeceased by a brother Donat Couture and a sister Eugenie Jolin. Funeral and burial will be private as he wished and planned for with his wife at their resting place in West Palm Beach Florida
